Galligan was a native of NY City and a graduate of the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal w/6 Olc, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, Ranger Tab and numerous campaign ribbons from both WWII and Vietnam. He awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit w/1 Ole. Lauderdale until he retired again in 1987.
